FAQ’S

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why choose GPL Times?

We believe in the open source community and believe that WordPress should be available to all.

Unfortunately, premium plugin and theme authors refuse to decouple support from the code, they won’t set regional price differences and they rarely offer discounts to students, low waged or the young.

We are providing a third way by redistributing the code without any unneeded extras.

All WordPress items such as plugins and themes are licensed under the General Public Licence (GPL).

This means that once we have purchased the item we are free to redistribute it if we choose to do so.

Your membership to our site goes towards maintaining and buying the subscriptions to 3rd party theme and plugin authors. This form of crowdfunding helps keep prices low and we can then pass this benefit on to you.

Our ‘about us’ page explains things in more detail.

No. If you require technical support regarding a plugin or theme then you will need to either purchase the product directly from the author (a link is provided) or you will need to hire a freelancer to take a look for you. Alternatively, you could ask around some of the helpful WordPress community forums.

Not offering support is the way in which we are able to offer the products at the discounted price.

Yes, 100%. We have active subscriptions to all the authors of the products featured on our website. We download from them and redistribute to you.

The downloads are not altered in any way except for few products that need activation before usage. Such products comes with a note in the product description.

Yes. All our products are regularly kept up to date. As soon as we are notified about an update, we download it from the developer and update it on our site. As long as you have an active subscription then you will have access to the updates.

You can see our most recent updates by visiting our update page, or can use our Auto Updater plugin to get direct updates in your dashboard.

Ignore it. Developers include these so that the plugin or theme can update automatically (which is not need as we do provide autoupdates via our updater plugin) or so that you can register for support or in some cases to import the premium templates (which is not needed by majority of users). The item itself will work perfectly fine without anything being entered in the box.

As many as you like. The plugins and themes are GPL licensed so you can use them as often as you like on as many sites as you like. Got a friend who’s building a site? Go share them with your friend. Seriously, there are no catches.

Yes, recently due to increase in number of leechers, we have to impose restrictions on number of downloads. Monthly Membership and Lifetime users can download 18 products per day, Quarterly / Half-Yearly Membership users can download 20 products per day, while Yearly Members can download 25 products per day.

We also have added a Developer Monthly Plan, which allows 50 downloads per day.

If you are using GPL Times Auto-updater plugin to update the plugins in your website, it will also share the same credit system as for downloads.

For example, if a Monthly Membership user auto-updated 10 plugins via our updater plugin, then he will have only 8 credits left.

You can cancel your active subscription anytime by visiting your “My Account > Subscriptions”. Click here.

No, we do not encourage leeching or reselling or stacking up our products. We will instantly ban or restrict our support to any account that found to be violating our terms and conditions / fair usage policy.

The decision to buy a new item is made according to the number of requests we receive for that item/s. Items availability are subject to change without prior notice. Though can request any item via this our request page.

No, in practice, license activations cannot be unlimited because the developers themselves do not allow unlimited domain activations. Most of them have a limit of 1,000 domain activations, and some developers send warning emails if we violate their fair usage policy. To maintain a balance, we offer 3 free domain activations to each user for each eligible product, whether they are membership plan users or have made an individual purchase. After that, you need to pay a nominal fee for each activation to ensure that our service is not abused, via our product activation page.

Please note that we reserve the right not to activate products for any user via license if we perceive a risk of our license key being banned.

In situations, where our subscription with the original developer has expired and we do not have any intention to renew it further because of any reason. In this case, you won’t see updated version of the product.

In case of Element Envato products, if the developer has removed the product from Element Envato, we cannot provide further updates to that product.

Sometime, due to trademark issues or DMCA notices, we do remove the products from our store.

Consider hiding the license activation reminders through a plugin like “WP Nag Hide.“ This plugin is free and very popular in the WordPress community. Make sure to check the official documentation for more information!

No, you will be able to use the products even after the membership expires. Though the download and updates will not be available but your existing installed plugin or theme will continue to work in your websites.

If you are not able to create a support ticket in our system, it means you have been identified and confirmed to have leeching, sharing, reselling or stacking our products (check FAQ no. 10 above). It also means you have lost the support for product activations and email replies as well.

You can be 100% sure that the file you have downloaded from GPL Times is clean and safe. You should understand that viruses and malicious code are completely different things. Virustotal is a tool for checking files for viruses, and you cannot use it to detect malicious code in PHP/JS, such as backlinks, web shells, or backdoors.

Today’s malicious code can be no different from ordinary code and it is often impossible to detect it with automated tools. However, we recommend using specialized tools such as VirusDie or Imunify to locate malicious code in files if you encounter such a need.

In the list of antiviruses VirusTotal there are Chinese antivirus solutions, such as Bkav, Jiangmin, Rising, Cyren. Such antiviruses often check the code simply for the presence of function eval, base64_encode/decode, etc. Although the presence of such constructions in the php-code does not at all mean that the code is malicious, and many developers use these functions for their own purposes (packing/unpacking data, custom fonts in css and others). For this reason, Chinese antiviruses often detect on absolutely clean files downloaded directly from developers. This is called false positives.
